Dr. Michalis A. Vasiliades

Senior Scientist

Michalis has been a team member since 2013. Firstly as a PhD candidate and since 2018 and onwards as a Senior Scientist. As a multidisciplinary Biologist, Chemist and Chemical Engineer, he’s enhancing strong attention to details and accuracy towards Environmental Heterogeneous Catalysis. In parallel to his PhD and Post-doctorate requirements, he is working as a Research and Development Scientist for two well-established companies (SASOL S.A. and Luxfer MEL Chemicals U.K.). Even though the short period being in academia, his contribution, quality and level of work are well recognized from the scientific community, considering the fact that he enumerates several publications in high impact factor journals (i.e. Advanced Materials, I.F. 32 and Applied Catalysis B, I.F. 24) with an h-index 21 and more than 1100 citations (as of March 2024). Moreover, he earned a first place award as a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences of the University of Cyprus and a first price poster award at both 13th and 14th European Catalysis Conference.

Mrs. Georgia-Maria Zarkou

PhD student

Georgia-Maria has been a team member since 2022. She obtained her BSc in Chemistry and conducted her bachelor’s thesis on the development of new bimetallic catalysts for the Dry Reforming of Methane reaction. In 2023, she received her MSc in Natural Gas in Energy Transition (GPA: 8.43/10) from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Cyprus, with a fully funded scholarship from the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD, focusing on the development of new catalytic nanomaterials for various purposes. The target reactions currently studied include Carbon Dioxide methanation, Carbon Monoxide oxidation, and Dry Reforming of Methane.

Mrs. Rongrong Gui

Visiting PhD student

Rongrong comes from Beijing Forestry University, China and became a one-year visiting PhD student in the team since 2023. She has been devoted to environmental catalysis since she was a master student. She focuses on the development and improvement of novel catalysts for NH3-SCR and CO oxidation and has published papers in Applied Catalysis B and Journal of Hazardous Materials. Currently, she is studying theoretical knowledge and experimental techniques related to reaction kinetics within the group.
